The Age-Old Story: I needed a product that didn’t exist. So, I made it.
My miniature longhaired dachshund, Penny, is your typical charming dachshund. She barks, hunts, instigates, investigates, guards, and tries her best to be the boss. Did I also mention she is Mother Nature’s swiffer and isn’t afraid of getting wet or dirty? Due to her charms, I was desperate for better coverage to keep her and the house clean after being outside. But I couldn’t find anything that fit my needs, let alone her shape, and the idea for Outdooring Dog was born. Coats specifically designed for dachshunds that not only cover their long back but, more importantly, as much of their underbelly as possible are easy to put on and take off, made of natural, sustainable materials (NOT plastics), water-repellent, breathable, and keep them both clean and warm.
ARTISANAL WOOL PRODUCTS:
Every piece is individually handmade, hand cut, and sewn with the utmost care and attention to detail. It took three years and hundreds of hours of development and testing (literally in fields, forests, streams, rain, and mud) to ensure it is practical and pretty with great coverage. The wool is personally inspected and hand-selected for its beautiful pattern, tight weave, smooth texture, easy care, and, more importantly, locally sourced from Dorr Mill Store, a historical mill that has been family-owned since the 1960s.
We are dedicated to using local, natural, and sustainable materials for the health of our animals and their humans!

Wool has incredible self-cleaning properties and incredible longevity. Remember, grandmother’s wool sweater is still being worn today, so give it a try! See its amazing characteristics below, I think you will be amazed.
Water Repellent
Wool is naturally water-repelling, keeping the fabric's surface dry. It can absorb up to 30% of its weight in water without feeling wet if it does get wet. This is due to wool's water-loving interior, which draws moisture away from the skin and into the fiber's core.
Odor Resistant & Anti-Microbial
Wool fibers naturally resist microbes, bacteria, and odor as it naturally moves moisture away from the skin.
Sustainable & Biodegradable
Wool has a low environmental footprint that is easily recycled or reused, biodegradable composted back into the earth, and takes less water to maintain due to its anti-microbial odor-resistant nature, which means less laundering.
Elastic
Wool is highly elastic, making it comfortable to wear when exercising or lounging on the couch!
Fire Resistant
Wool naturally insulates against high temperatures and does not readily catch fire. If it does, it self-extinguishes and does not melt or stick to the skin like synthetic fabrics
Insulation & Temperature Regulator
Wool regulates the amount of moisture on the skin by wicking any moisture away from the body eventually evaporating into the atmosphere. It is also an active fiber that reacts to changes in body temperature. So it helps you stay warm when the weather is cold, and cool when the weather is hot.
Durable & Long-Lasting
Wools durability far surpasses other fibers, making it tough to tear and resistant to abrasion thus making it a long-lasting option that will last the lifetime of your pup, if maintained properly.
Local & Historical
The textile industry has been woven into our local history for well over a century with industrial activity starting as early as 1768. Woven textiles were one of the main industries on the banks of the Sugar River, here in New Hampshire, which includes our wool supplier, whose family has owned the mill since 1963. Though the mill no longer manufactures the wool in house, their wool is still made domestically to their high specifications and standards.
